Department of Motor Vehicles Connecticut (CT DMV)

The Connecticut DMV maintains a large and frequently updated website. Their site offers a wealth of information on many subjects to include: renewing or reinstating your driver's license, safety and traffic enforcement initiatives, vehicle registration and inspections. Please click on any of the underlined items below to visit the CT DMV's website.

Driver's License and ID's- This area has all the information you need about commercial, motorcycle and standard drivers licensing. In addition you will find information on learner's permits, teen drivers and the organ donor program.

Inspections-The DMV carries out many vehicle inspections. The DMV must inspect most vehicles before they can be registered in the state. Inspections include the following vehicles; school transportation vehicles, school buses, taxis, commercial vehicles, large trucks and out of state vehicles.

Vehicle registration- The DMV registers all forms of transportation. Registration is not limited to cars, trucks and motorcycles. Boats, snowmobiles, trailers and busses must be registered with the DMV.

Suspended licenses- If your license has been suspended this page will guide you through the process of getting it back. Different types of suspensions and special permits are outlined here.

Disabled drivers- Disabled drivers are entitled to special parking space permits and plates. This page also offers information on training services for disabled drivers. The training helps disabled drivers learn to use adaptive driving equipment.

Insurance requirements- In Connecticut all registered motor vehicles must have liability insurance. This page outlines the minimum requirements along with fines for not carrying the minimum amount of insurance.

Online services- If your renewal notice stated that you were eligible to renew your registration online you may use this service. If you have any questions about the DMV's AutoRenew system please click here. Another online service offered by the CT DMV is the vanity plate lookup. If you would like personalized plates you can click here to see if your desired phrase has been taken.
