Connecticut (CT) Drunk Driving Statistics and Prevention

Though we all hear the message again and again, drunk driving accidents are still a leading cause of death in Connecticut and across the nation. As personal injury attorneys we have seen all too many serious injuries and deaths caused by drunk drivers. To help stop this trend we would like to ensure that information on preventing drunk driving is readily accessible to the public. Oh this page we have compiled a list of local drunk driving resources and statistics. This list should be seen as a work in progress. We will add new CT resources as we find them.

  • Connecticut DMV- The CT Department of Motor Vehicles is a tremendous resource for information on DUI laws, statistics and prevention measures. A FAQ section about drinking and driving offers easy to read questions and answers on subjects such as how alcohol affects a person's ability to drive and what a DUI means to drivers. This page would be useful to parents as they discuss drinking and driving with their teenagers. A breakdown of Connecticut's drunk driving law allows drivers to understand the legal implications of a DUI or DWI.
  • MADD Connecticut- Mothers Against Drunk Driving is a national organization dedicated to stopping "drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime and preventing underage drinking." MADD has an active chapter in Connecticut. Their headquarters are in East Haven and chapter leaders can be reached by phone or e-mail by clicking here. You can look for local events or discuss drunk driving in Connecticut by visiting their facebook page.
  • The Century Council- The Century Council is "an association of distillers fighting drunk driving & underage drinking." While they offer a variety of information for any concerned citizen they also provide drunk driving statistics by state. An example on the page for CT includes data concerning the number of alcohol-impaired driving fatalities. In 2008, 86 people lost their lives in Connecticut during alcohol related accidents.
