Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA)

The Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) "provides leadership and advocacy for the States and Territories to improve traffic safety, influence national policy, enhance program management and promote best practices." Their ultimate goal, though lofty, is to reduce traffic deaths to zero. The GHSA does so by arming each state with workable solutions to traffic safety issues. In Connecticut, the GHSA works with state and local agencies to provide safety information and to spread the word about safety campaigns. • State Laws- On this page you may search for a specific type of highway safety law for Connecticut or review a list of the states key highway safety laws.
• State Highway Offices- The GHSA works closely with the Connecticut Department of Transportation Safety Section to prevent car accidents and spread the word about current safety campaigns.
• State Highway Safety Programs & Funding- The GHSA administers grants to states based on the types of highway safety laws a state enacts or maintains. These incentive grants are enhanced by penalties and sanctions.
• Current Projects and Activities- Anti-drunk driving and seat belt use campaigns are examples of ongoing highway safety projects. At the time of this report the nationwide campaign, Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest. was being featured in Connecticut and across the nation.
