The National Spinal Cord Injury Association has been, “Leading the way in maximizing the quality of life and opportunities for people with spinal cord injuries since 1948.”  Their extensive resource list, studies and advocacy group should be helpful to those who have suffered a spinal cord injury and their families. The National Spinal Cord Injury Association

The National Spinal Cord Injury Association was founded in 1948 to improve the lives of those living with the results of spinal cord injury and disease. They also work to provide support for family members of those affected by spinal cord injury. Their goal is to, "educate and empower survivors of spinal cord injury and disease to achieve and maintain the highest levels of independence, health and personal fulfillment."

  • Resource Center- Here you will find a wide variety of information on spinal cord injury and disease. Topics here include aging with SCI, adjustment to spinal cord injury, care givers and home modifications.
  • Resources by State- Members of NSCIA may participate in their local chapter or support group. Both those with spinal cord injuries and those without are encouraged to become community advocates for those with a SCI. The Connecticut Chapter of NSCIA is located in Wallingford, CT.
  • Become a Member- Visit this page to register as a member of NSCIA. Member benefits include discounted insurance rates from participating insurance carriers.
  • Forums- Members can come here to connect with others with a spinal cord injury. Current topics include pregnancy and SCI, women and disabilities and working at home. You must be a member to read and respond to forum topics.
  • Conferences and Events- A list of current and future events can be found here. Upcoming events include free airplane rides for challenged children and their families and an Independent Living Expo. Check here often for new additions to the calendar.
