Teamsters Discuss Workers Compensation After Fatal Ct. Shootings

Families and friends continue to mourn the loss of loved ones in the recent shooting at the Manchester beer distributorship in Connecticut. Eight people were killed and two others injured when an employee entered the facility and began shooting.
Though family members have one year to file for workers compensation, state officials and union teamsters have begun discussing how family members can go about doing so.
The insurer for the company, The Hanover Insurance Group, has identified a point of contact for families and workers filing claims. The Chairman of the state Workers Compensation Commission has also sent a letter to the unions' representative. The letter explains the process of filing a worker's compensation claim to family members of the deceased.
According to the commission the insurer pays based on the average weekly wage, bonuses, shift differentials and other earnings in the 52 weeks before the shooting.
